Mike Sanders for Mayor of Leander

Mike brings proven leadership and innovation to the Leander City Council.  If you want change, vote for Mike!  From fixing our water issues, to improving our roads and infrastructure, to limiting the addition of more high-density housing in our city, to finally waving goodbye to the empty trains that block our traffic.  Others may promise improvement while running for election, but those who have sat on the City Council for years without addressing the problems they now promise to fix are not being honest.  It’s time for new leadership.

Happy New Year 2026!

Early voting begins on Monday Jan 26th and Election Day is Saturday, Feb 7th.  For both Williamson County and Travis County residents, all voting will take place at the Leander City Hall located at 105 N Brushy St, Leander, TX.  There will only be one polling location for all Leander residents in both counties.

Biography

Mike Sanders and his wife Loyda have been married for 32 years and have lived in Leander for the past 15 years.  They have two adult children, Joshua and Rachel who were home-schooled during their elementary school years and went on to attend and graduate from Rouse High School and the University of Texas in Austin.  They both then went on to attend Dallas Theological Seminary where Rachel completed a one year certificate before working as a school teacher and Joshua obtained a Masters Degree.

Mike Sanders has served as an Elections Clerk and an Elections Judge in Williamson County, with a focus to help ensure fair and honest elections.  Mike served on the Board of Directors for his neighborhood HOA where he put a stop to initiating foreclosure proceedings against property owners who owed less than $500 to the HOA.  His neighborhood HOA had initiated foreclosures against over 60 homeowners who each owed less than $500 in dues, and that abuse stopped when Mike was elected to the HOA Board of Directors.  He replaced an overly aggressive attorney and implemented a more efficient collections program.  Delinquencies decreased significantly when communications were improved from the management company to members.   Both in his position as Pastor and later as HOA Board Director, Mike regularly guarded private information of his parishioners and his neighbors.  He understands that leaders sometimes make difficult decisions based on knowledge that must be held confidential.

In 2024, Mike was elected to the Board of Directors for the Williamson Central Appraisal District, where he has regularly spoken out in defense of taxpayers in Williamson County.  Mike believes out out-of-control property taxes need to be reigned in.

Mike has been elected in numerous Republican Primary elections to represent Leander as a member of the Williamson County Republican Executive Committee.  Mike is the Republican Chair of Precinct 264 in Williamson County.  He has participated in several State Conventions of the Republican Party of Texas, and has helped to elect conservative leadership in the state party.

Mike served in the United States Marine Corps four years in the 3rd Marine Air Wing where he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant E-5.  After completing a four years of active duty, Mike received an honorable discharge and then served two additional years in the Marine Reserves.  Mike then went on to study Electronics Engineering at California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo, CA and has worked as an Electronics Engineer for over 35 years, with a focus on designing video circuits.  As an engineer, Mike designs Printed Circuit Boards and writes firmware for programmable circuits.  He often writes and reviews legal contracts as part of his work.  Mike enjoys research and data analysis.

Mike served as a delegate to the State Convention of the Republican Party of Texas (RPT) where he voted to support conservative principles such as limited  government, the right for citizens to keep and bear arms, defending parents choice for the education of their children, defending marriage between a man and a woman, defending the right for innocent babies to be protected from having their lives taken from them and defending children from being forcefully transitioned to “another gender”.  Mike has been elected by his peers multiple times to be the Republican Chair for Precinct 264 in Leander.

Mike believes all people have an inalienable right to defend themselves and their property.  He affirms that the Constitution of the United States of America protects citizens from an overreaching government.  Mike does not support governing people by means of “executive orders”.  No business owner should be ordered to close the doors to his/her business, at the whims of some government official.  Mike is opposed to the use of “executive orders” as a means by which the executive branch of government has usurped the legislative branch, forcing citizens out of their jobs and forcing small businesses to close.  Mike opposes forcing citizens to be injected with pharmaceuticals that they do not trust or want.

Mike strongly supports law enforcement, believing that one of the primary functions of government is to protect the safety of our citizens.

Through the years, Mike has served his community on several church boards and committees including Elder Boards, Finance Committees, Missions Committees and Evangelism Committees.   Mike speaks fluent Spanish and has served as a Pastor helping to plant several small Spanish-speaking churches.  Mike served with Reveal Resource Center, helping each week for two years, to distribute food and clothing to families in need around the Cedar Park and Leander area.  His Evangelical Christian faith guides Mikes decision making.  Mike believes in helping those in need, but is opposed to the kind of policies that have resulted in attracting myriads of homeless people to the City of Austin.

Mike is opposed to wasteful government spending.  Mike describes himself as both a social and a fiscal conservative.
