Water pumping stations and water treatment plants are necessary elements in the water distribution system for any city. Steps need to be taken to ensure these vital elements are not compromised by rolling blackouts that are designed to reduce the load on our electric grid.
There is an urgent need for the City of Leander to take action to ensure adequate water is supplied to our residents. There has been a recent effort in our city to create a four-acre “lagoon” that will draw water from the aquifer beneath us continuously, 24 hours per day, 7 days per week, every week of every year. Mike Sanders sees this as a wasteful use of our natural resources.
It would be much wiser for our city to have a well to the aquifer that could be used as an alternate source of water in the case of emergencies or natural disasters. Having a location where citizens could come and find fresh water would be a huge benefit for our city in times of emergency. An ideal location for this well could be next to a fire station, where the water could be used to fill a water pumping fire truck as well as being a location for residents to come and fill drinking containers.
The winter 2020-2021 has taught us that the City of Leander needs to have at least one snow plow to clear roads during a winter storm. If purchased wisely, we could own a vehicle that is useful for other purposes as well as clearing roads. Funds need to be set aside for the purchase of such a vehicle. We have to be prepared ahead of time when an emergency arises.
